Bund

The Bund (Chinese name is 外滩, Waitan),  also called East Zhongshan 1st Road, located on the banks of the Huangpu River in the Huangpu District of Shanghai, is a local historical and cultural district and regarded as one of the most recognizable landmarks of Shanghai for a century.

The Bund is a good place to see both old and modern Shanghai. Strolling along the 1.5 kilometers road of the Bund, you will find its 52 well-preserved classical buildings of different styles standing line up on the west side. Opposite the Huangpu River, you will have spectacular views of modern high-rise buildings constructed over the last twenty years. Walking to the northern end of the Bund, you will find the beautiful Huangpu Park. Its green lawn and plants make it the only green area in the busy place, and you could enjoy the peace.

The best locations for taking a panoramic Bund view are the promenade, the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Huangpu Park, Waibaidu Bridge, and the Oriental Pearl Tower.

You should visit this place at least two times if you have time. Once during the day and another time, in the evening once the sun sets and the lights switch-on! The lights give this area the charm and romance, and also admirable about these artificial structures!
